Is Apple Feeling A Bit Insecure About The iPad?

In a bit of a surprising move, it seems Apple may be feeling a tad insecure in the future success of the iPad in the United Kingdom if you believe some of the Google AdWords the company is purchasing.

Google AdWords is the system by which anyone can purchase advertising space in those ubiquitous ad slots we see all over the Web. You place bids on certain keywords so that when someone hits on those words, your ads are displayed. Well, TechCrunch is reporting that when you had to Google.co.uk, the UK portal for the popular search engine, and search on the Dell Streak tablet, you get to see an ad for the Apple iPad. We ran our own check, and sure enough, there it was.

Some searches for the HP Slate also turned up the ad, but it was not present when we checked.

It is an age old tactic for companies to advertise where their competitors are, but it seems a bit unusual for Apple to even acknowledge that anyone other than they exist. Sure Apple CEO Steve Jobs will poke occasional fun at his press events at the competition, and the now ended “I’m a Mac/I’m a PC” ads existed, but other than those two instances, Apple rarely makes any comment on other products even existing.

Makes you wonder if something is going on with the iPad we haven’t heard about quite yet.

What say you? Do you find this odd for Apple?
